Food for thought…

2 minute read.

I’m guessing that most of us know, as adults, that what we eat has a huge impact on how we feel and how we function. It can even help determine how long we live and the quality of life we might have.

But have you also thought about how we eat what we eat ?

Do you bolt your food down on the go without even tasting it, stood up running round the kitchen getting packed lunches ready or making other peoples’ breakfasts?

Well, that has been me in the past and occasionally I still fall into that old habit when the pressure of time and the demands of the day crowd in.  I don’t think that having been a primary school teacher for nearly 20 years helped me one bit to take time over my meals. Cultivating good habits around food was a challenge….breakfasts were often eaten in the car on the way to work, lunch eaten in the classroom marking books or setting up for the next lesson, sometimes eaten in the staffroom but squeezed into the last ( or first) 10 mins of lunchtime and eaten way too quickly. And dinner could be eaten way too late in an evening after all the lesson planning was done for the next day! My poor body!!!

It was my husband who challenged me to slow down to eat, paying attention to my food and enjoying the time set aside for meals as a family, but it didn’t always have to be with others; he considered that taking time to eat slowly, on your own, was a necessary luxury for the great thinking time it afforded.

Daydreaming. Musing. Planning. Mulling. Creating.

Thoughts that could be chewed over as you chewed your food with the sun on your face.

I do find that sitting in the garden to eat when I’m on my own can be a real pleasure, and in the last year more thoughts than not about what to do next to grow this business have been crystallized as I’ve sat and chewed them over whilst munching a mid-morning granola snack with a hot cup of coffee.

I’m not saying that my granola has the power to help you see into the future, overcome obstacles or to navigate the path ahead, but it does have super powers!

Granola is actually a superfood that has numerous health benefits. All Garden Granolas  contain dozens of essential vitamins and minerals thanks to the high nut and seed content :

Vitamin E
Vitamin K
Thiamin
Riboflavin
Niacin
Vitamin B6
Folate
Pantothenic Acid
Calcium
Iron
Magnesium
Phosphorus
Potassium
Zinc
Copper
Manganese
Selenium

Together, with its healthy fats and high fibre content, it makes for an extremely versatile, healthhy and convenient option to choose for breakfast or to snack on in between meals.

And did I mention tasty? It would be such a shame to rush it!
